Art and Feminism (stylized as Art+Feminism) is an annual worldwide edit-a-thon to add content to Wikipedia about female artists.

A Malta edition was introduced by Alexandra Pace and Nicole Bearman at Blitz in Valletta in 2018, with support from Wikimedia Community Malta who integrated it into the annual Wiki Loves Art initiative.

In 2019, WCM made Art+Feminism an integral part of its annual Wiki Loves Art activities. See Wiki Loves Art 2019 for full details. The 2020 edition was the most substantial to date, particularly because Covid-19 restrictions were only introduced in the days immediately after the main programme activities.

2021

ART+FEMINISM in MALTA 2021

The 2021 edition of the Art+Feminism edit-a-thon returns to form part of a broader Wiki Loves Art initiative. The broader focus revolves around Wikipedia 20, with particular attention to notable Valletta-born women in the arts, stemming from the QRpedia in Valletta project. Special attention is being given to the pianists Bice Vassallo Mizzi and Cynthia Turner, among others.

Previous editions

2020

The 2020 edition of Art+Feminism edit-a-thon in Malta yielded the largest number of Wikipedia contributions since the project started being held locally three years ago. Two sessions were held and new articles created on the English language Wikipedia about Debbie Caruana Dingli and Anna Grima. Both artists are featured in the Art+Feminism at Spazju Kreattiv.

Pages about Maria de Dominici and Jean Busuttil Zaleski were also created on the Maltese-language Wikipedija from work done in previous editions of Art+Feminism. Maria de Dominici is the first known Maltese woman artist, who was active during the baroque period, while 2020 marks Zaleski's 100th birthday and 10 years since her passing.

Other articles produced or improved during the 2020 Art+Feminism edit-a-thon in Malta include the 19th-century photographer Adelaide Conroy, award-winning writer [[wikipedia:Loranne Vella|Loranne Vella], as well as the Malta Jazz Festival, where three women artists painted regularly for many years.

NOTE: you only need to do two things to participate fully in either of the Wikipedia editing workshops and edit-a-thons:

  1. CREATE A WIKIPEDIA USER ACCOUNT (if you don't already have one)
  2. Bring a laptop or wifi-enabled tablet device with you, if you have one
