Wiki Loves Monuments is an annual international photographic competition based upon the topic of built cultural heritage. It is one of the largest photographic competitions in the world, with the 2018 edition attracting the submission of over 350,000 photos from over 13,000 participants in 56 countries across the world.

Malta has been participating in Wiki Loves Monuments through Wikimedia Community Malta since 2016. Entries come from a list of monument in Malta, which is available on Wikipedia, based on the National Inventory of the Cultural Property of the Maltese Islands (NICPMI).

2020 adjustments

In 2020, we're dealing with a pandemic that is ravaging countries. This makes it particularly hard to organize Wiki Loves Monuments engagement events. The international team has therefore published an altered timeline for the international contest:

  • November 30: last day of submission permitted from countries who have delayed their national contest beyond September
  • January 2, 2021: Deadline of submission of national winners to the international jury
  • January 2021: International jury process
  • February 2021: announcement international winners
